Reconciliation action plans

Creating better engagement with indigenous communities and staff. Creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace.

Communication and engagement are two extremely different components of human interaction, often mistaken as interchangeable, engagement is markedly different by virtue of it requiring participants willing to listen and contribute in a meaningful way.

…in the simplest terms, it means fairness, which is not necessarily the same thing as equality. Its not about everybody getting the same thing, its about everybody getting what they need in order to improve the quality of their situation.

Cynthia Silver Parker

The long road to reconciliation means different things to different people, some don’t know how to start the journey, some are too scared to and some simply don’t want to. Once an organisation has decided to play a part in the reconciliation process they often find it difficult to develop meaningful time bound targets relevant to their business let alone how to achieve them.

Peek Consulting take a progressive and contemporary approach to Reconciliation. Using the AcdB technique we look at where the organisation is on the reconciliation journey (A) and where the organisation wants to be (B). We then assess what must be done (c) and how it can be done (d) in order to get there. In doing so we seek to understand the organisation including, it’s product, people and culture. We then work with the organisation to ascertain and plan where it can work toward and achieve meaningful outcomes for indigenous people as well as themselves.

Pritchard Francis engaged Peek Consulting to assist with the development of our Reconciliation Action Plan. Cara and Adele were an integral part of the development and endorsement of this document, providing cultural advice and engagement of a local Indigenous artist, including preparation of copy write agreement and artist selection. They openly provided relevant contacts and recommendations that assisted with our launch functions and executive training.

Peek Consulting takes the time to create a cross cultural understanding within the organisation looking at the various cultures that exist on a day to day basis including organisational, indigenous and contemporary Australian. In doing so we take into consideration the organisations place on the cultural competency spectrum, ensuring everyone is clear about the awareness process they are about to embark on, and the commitment that will be expected at all levels of the business. Depending on what stage Peek Consulting is brought into the process various discussions that may inform the Reconciliation Action Plan Process these may include stakeholder assessment, working with cultural differences, working effectively with communities and working across cultures, all of which will inform the targets and commitments made within the plan itself.
